The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in California at the age of 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio which he helped establish.

The influential industry figure died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a freeway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, according to.
