Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only seven months after leading insulting chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy time at Elland Road was ended through agreement in August.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder
Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season however the former Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
