Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

Atkinson pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "during the day".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January gets underway at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 while batting being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

The English bowler was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
