Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
