HBO's It Spinoff Premieres Next Sooner Than Planned on HBO Max
Audiences are thrilled for the horror series Welcome to Derry, which is receiving positive feedback and drawing from references from other Stephen King works. Following the premiere, HBO announced that the next chapter will debut sooner than expected, released fittingly for the spookiest night.
Schedule Change Information
Kicking off on the last day of October at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO Max, before its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the series run will be released on the weekend on HBO and HBO Max, culminating in the season finale on the 14th of December.
Show Background
Set in the world of King's It, Welcome to Derry draws from King’s iconic novel while building upon the world established by the It movie director in the recent movie adaptations. The original It focused on kids and teens battling supernatural evils, thus it's suitable that the prequel follows in those footsteps. However, the premiere episode of the HBO series proves it intended to escalate the fear, offering more frightening moments than Muschietti’s films and setting a harsh vibe for the upcoming episodes.
Premise and Ideas
Taking place in the 1960s, this show features a different group of parents and youngsters residing in a seemingly idyllic town concealing a evil heart. This place follows a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a evil entity resurfaces each 27-year cycle. Even though It: Welcome to Derry might seem like it strays too near to the movies on the surface, what distinguishes the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the perspectives of kids and grown-ups at the same time. The kids are especially susceptible to the entity's fear, but the adults don't escape facing their own nightmares stemming from the town's ingrained prejudice and lurking supernatural forces.
Episode 2 airs on Halloween at midnight PT.
