Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
