Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
